Why did I choose this university?

‘I chose the University of South Australia because they have a very good reputation for training and there is a good balance between studying theories and doing hands-on clinical experience from an early start which is fundamental to Nursing. When I was in Year 11 and 12, I went to Open Day at the University of South Australia two years in a row to feel what it liked to be in the University environment. I did a lot of research before making my decision to study my Bachelor of Nursing at this University.’

My first week

‘My first week at the University was very interesting. It was all about exploring the new environment, familiarising myself with where things were: the locations of the lecture theatres, the labs, the tutorial rooms, the library, the computer pools and the cafeteria. I was very looking forward to getting to know the lecturers and tutors and making new friends at university as well. Going to the lectures for the first time was very exciting. I could really feel what it was like as a young adult studying in the university environment. Since my campus has a lot of buildings, I was not surprised that I got lost quite a few times!’

My campus

‘My City East campus is located on North Terrace in the city and it’s all about the Health Science division. The part that I enjoy the most during my time studying at City East campus has been the nursing laboratory Practice Based Learning (PBL). They are hospital-standard with the most up-to-date facilities to facilitate our studies and even the patients could be transferred here if necessary i.e. when the other hospitals are full. The University of South Australia also offers a wide range of very supportive services for international students. For example, Campus Central, the Learning and Teaching Units and the University of South Australia Students Association (USASA), provide extra support, as well as social activities and sport clubs for students. There is never a dull moment on campus. I was also very impressed by how the University operates a numbers of clinics on site for students and staff as well as for the general public. For example, the UniSA Medical Clinic, the Physiotherapy Clinic Podiatry Clinic and the Mammography Clinic.’

My city

‘Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia and it is the fifth-largest city in Australia with a population of 1.3 million people. When I first arrived in Adelaide, my first impression was Adelaide was a very quiet city, compared to my hometown which is much smaller in size and larger in population (with more than 12 million people). But as time goes by, I realised that even though Adelaide is a small city, it has everything that international students need and is very easy to move around.’

My study space

‘I spend most of my time studying at uni and the uni library is my most favourite place to concentrate on my studies. The library has a lot of useful resources for my assignments and exams preparation.’

My social life

‘It is very peaceful here in Adelaide and I enjoy hanging out with my friends on the weekends. Australia is a multicultural country and it has been such a great journey for me to meet new people and learn something new every day. I am very lucky to have such good and friendly local and international friends to share, experience and appreciate the cultural differences from around the world with. My friends and I enjoy dining out on the weekends and when it comes to food, South Australia is very popular with its food and wine. In the heart capital city itself in Adelaide, it has so many choices to choose from, such as Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Italian cuisines. We usually go to dessert places in Adelaide as well!’

My home

‘International students have a variety of accommodation choices in Adelaide. Some rent, some live in the University accommodation, some live with their families. I live very close to the beach and now it is winter here so I cannot wait till summer again so I go there anytime.’
