What will I learn?

Our Level 5 New Zealand Diploma in IT Technical Support is our entry level Computer Engineering course. Whatever your background, we will teach you the basics needed for entry level IT jobs or further IT study. In this course, you will learn to:

Assemble, repair, and manage computer hardware and network devices.
Troubleshoot networks and configure routers, Wi-Fi, and firewalls.
Manage databases utilising SQL server.
Understand the basics of cybersecurity and modern desktop provisioning.
Dive into cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, covering tools such as SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, and OneDrive.

WHAT IS AN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICAL SUPPORT ENGINEER?

An Information Technology Technical Support Engineer is responsible for assisting colleagues, clients, and customers with computer software and hardware issues while also ensuring that networks and websites are functioning correctly. Working in teams with other IT professionals like Systems Engineers, Network Analysts, and Database Administrators, they can progress to senior technical roles. IT technical support technicians are hands-on professionals who possess excellent communication skills and thrive in team environments.

Educational Pathways
This qualification provides a pathway to a Level 6 specialist IT qualification. This may include:

    • New Zealand Diploma in Networking (Level 6)
    • New Zealand Diploma in Systems Administration (Level 6)
    • New Zealand Diploma in Database Administration (Level 6)
    • New Zealand Diploma in Information Systems with strands in Business Analysis, User Experience, IT Project Management, Information Systems Innovation (Level 6)
    • New Zealand Diploma in Software Development (Level 6)

Entry requirements

For international students

There are no mandatory prerequisites for this qualification.

Applicants must be 18 years or older

Learners enrolling are recommended to hold one of the following qualifications, or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.

• NCEA Level 2 or 3
• New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Intermediate User) (Level 3)
• New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Advanced User) (Level 4)
• New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology (Level 5)

Proof of English Language status (IELTS or TOEFL test results, or evidence that your medium of instruction has been English).
