This course trains students to be competent diagnostic radiographers capable of the expert use of radiation systems for identifying diseases and/or injuries of patients. The Diploma in Radiation Therapy, on the other hand, trains radiation therapists to use radiation to treat diseases such as cancer. The course aims to provide graduates with a foundation in radiation medicine, biological and behavioural sciences for understanding human biology, behaviour and diseases; ability to integrate knowledge with clinical skills and judgment to implement diagnostic procedures or radiation treatment depending on their specialisation; knowledge and skills to use computers and research methods in their work. The demand for radiographers and radiation therapists provides graduates with attractive employment opportunities in hospitals, polyclinics and private radiology clinics. Graduates can also seek employment in multinational companies in their medical product divisions. Opportunities for further studies are also plentiful. Graduates can undertake degree level courses in renowned overseas tertiary institutions which offer degree conversion programmes. They may also pursue specialised studies in radiation medicine through the Advanced Diploma in Sonography programme offered by the School of Health Sciences at Nanyang Polytechnic. Graduates can register as full members with the Singapore society of radiographers, which is a member of the international society of radiographers and radiological technologists, a worldwide body comprising 60,000 members. Students will undertake their chosen modules in addition to their diploma modules during the course of their study.
