All Human Services programs require work and/or an internship setting where accelerated learning provides students an opportunity to use the knowledge they gain in their studies to take positive action in the organization where they are employed or interning. The Associates of Arts Degree features a four Purpose sequence, comprised of both classwork and fieldwork, in which students explore up to three different internship opportunities. Each Purpose is equivalent to one semester of traditional college work. The College awards 15 credits for each Purpose completed at the baccalaureate and associate levels. To receive the Associate Degree, a student must complete Purposes 1 through 4 for a total of 60 credits.
All students enrolled in the Associate of Arts Degree program must take 48 of their 60 required credits at the College. The transfer credits from other colleges must be applied to the first four Purposes in order to receive the Associate degree. The student must complete the following Purposes:
Purpose 1 - Self Assessment and Preparation for Practice
Purpose 2 - Developing Professional Relationships
Purpose 3 - Working in Groups
Purpose 4 - Teaching and Communication
Students enrolled in the Associate of Arts Degree program are not eligible for participation in the Advanced Standing Option while they are pursuing their Associate of Arts Degree.
Students who successfully complete the requirements for graduation are eligible for further matriculation into the Bachelors of Professional Studies in Human Services.
