What will I learn?

APU’s Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry major equips students to explore the chemical foundations of living organisms. The degree provides a solid foundation in general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, cell biology, quantitative analysis, biochemistry, physics, and calculus. Students choose an emphasis based on their career goals: either Pre-Health Professions or Research. These then provide a framework for advanced study in the student’s area of interest, such as thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, molecular biology, genetics, or anatomy.

The Department of Biology and Chemistry provides an environment where undergraduate biochemistry majors can develop a Christian worldview and learn to integrate their faith into their lives and their discipline. Biochemistry majors have the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research alongside faculty, allowing them to stand out among their peers when applying for graduate programs or professional research positions. Biochemistry majors gain a deep understanding of scientific principles and mature into scientists prepared for graduate or professional studies and for success in leadership roles in their future careers.
