Prospective candidates should ensure they meet all criteria before submitting their application.

To be eligible you must be:

  • an International student who holds a Temporary Protection visa or a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa or be an asylum seeker on Bridging Visa A or E
  • commencing located (on campus) full time studies in Trimester 1 2017 at Deakin University
  • eligible for entry into an award course at Deakin University.

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) / Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (DUPRS)

Eligibility criteria

Successful applicants must have achieved a first class Honours degree or equivalent. Awards are only available to those who will be undertaking a Masters or Doctoral degree full-time in 2015 and have applied for, or are currently enrolled in, a higher degree by research. Applicants who have commenced their graduate research degree must have at least 12 months full-time or equivalent candidature remaining. Applicants who have previously held an APA or DUPR for six months or more cannot be considered for another APA or DUPR.

The primary criterion is a high standard of Honours (a year of assessed research following an undergraduate course) or its equivalent. Equivalence could include:

  • research Masters' degree with at least 2/3 of the degree comprising a thesis graded at 80 per cent plus
  • coursework Masters' degrees or graduate diplomas which includes a research project or thesis of 10,000 to 20,000 words to 80 per cent plus standard and research methodology units
  • comparable qualifications from international universities including a research project or thesis of 10,000 to 20,000 words and GPA 80 per cent plus standard
  • relevant postgraduate research experience
  • independently refereed journal articles, publications, or conference papers
  • professional reporting or prior learning
  • research related awards or prizes
  • other evidence of research ability.

Business Bursaries for International VCE Students

Eligibility criteria

  • Be a commencing international student who studied VCE in Australia or offshore in 2015
  • be enrolled in a Deakin Business School undergraduate course in Trimester 1 2016.
  • This bursary does not apply to combined degrees and postgraduate degrees. Bursaries cannot be deferred and will no longer apply if you transfer to a different (non-eligible) course.

PhD scholarship - Glendon A. Lean Memorial Award in Mathematics Education

Successful applicants must have achieved a Master of Education degree with a research pathway or equivalent, and have done so with outstanding results.

Awards are only available to those who will be undertaking a higher degree by research, and who:

  • are enrolling as full-time PhD students
  • are not receiving another equivalent award, scholarship or salary to undertake the proposed program (generally less than 75 per cent of the base APA stipend rate)
  • have not completed a degree at the same level as the proposed candidature, or at a higher level.

The IPRS are open to international students. Successful applicants must have achieved a first class Honours degree or equivalent. Awards are only available to those who will be undertaking a Masters or Doctoral degree full-time in 2015 and have applied for, or are currently enrolled in, a Higher Degree by Research. Applicants who have commenced their research degree must have at least 12 months full-time or equivalent candidature remaining. Applicants who have previously held an IPRS for six months or more cannot be considered for another IPRS, APA or DUPR.

Master of Laws (LLM) Scholarship

Study level

Eligibility requirements

To apply for admission to the LLM program, a student must have completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent, and no less than four years of full-time study at a university or other approved educational institution and satisfied the minimum entry requirements of the LLM program. In some circumstances consideration may also be given to students who have more than two years of relevant work experience.

Candidates for the LLM program must also demonstrate English Language competency at Band B as set out in Schedule A to the Admission Criteria Selection (Higher Education Courses) procedure before commencing study.

Students will be required to complete an application for the Master of Laws Program and will be selected for the scholarship based on academic merit, professional experience, quality of their application, and interview performance.
