This scholarship allows for Clean Energy Programme Office (CEPO) and companies to jointly fund local scholarships for clean energy research and coursework masters and PhDs. The scheme will help to ensure an adequate supply of clean energy trained postgraduates for companies as they expand their businesses. Companies to be considered for this programme should be key companies that have a reputation for, or that can demonstrate, professional personnel management to ensure that the scholars are gainfully employed. The companies should preferably be well-established and have a sizable operation in Singapore or are considering new investments / projects in Singapore.

Application details

Applicants must submit a completed application form along with supporting documents (indicate the scholarship applied to, i.e. “NRF (Clean Energy) PhD Scholarships” on the top left hand corner of the envelope). Application form and supporting documents are non-returnable. The supporting documents include: certified true copy of NRIC or passport, NS certificate (if applicable),GRE results, TOEFL results (for applicants whose degree is from a university where English is not the main medium of instruction), ‘O’ level results or equivalent, ‘A’ level results or equivalent, award and prizes and certificates (if any), university transcripts and degree scrolls, two letters of recommendation, list of publications (if any), letter of admission, acceptance to university (if any) and two passport-sized photographs . All application materials must be mailed to Clean Energy Programme Office, My Sing Post Box 880108, Singapore 919191.

NRF (Clean Energy) PhD Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

The NRF (Clean Energy) PhD Scholarships offer support for up to four years of academic pursuit, leading to a PhD in related disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. All research topics should be in areas related to Clean Energy. Most of the scholarships given would be in solar, with a possible few others in fuel cells, energy efficiency and other renewable energies. Scholars must obtain CEPO’s agreement before embarking on a particular research area and project, so as to be in line with CEPO’s technology roadmap. For local PhD scholarships, CEPO will work with the universities to ensure that the candidate has a specific research project and supervisor identified before the award.

Value details

The scholarship covers the following components: fees Full tuition, monthly subsistence allowance, other allowances including: Annual Book allowance, computer allowance, conference allowance, thesis allowance, travel allowance, warm clothing allowance and settling-in allowance. For overseas PhD a monthly allowance of S$3000/month for local PhD study. All rates/allowances are subject to adjustments by CEPO from time to time. This scholarship is eligible to applicants with a relevant bachelor’s degree with Honours (at least 2nd Class Upper) or its equivalent and good GRE test scores. Good TOEFL score is required for applicants whose mother tongue is not English.
