Biruda Virkud - iGrad Global talks about the duration of UG and PG study in the US. She explains how the education system works in the US, when it comes to the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
When comparing the education system in India with that in the US, it shows a lot of variation. All students who plan to study in the US
are required to have a 4-year bachelor degree, for them to be eligible to apply for a PG program. Most US universities have this set as a standard requirement. The engineering students or students who have enrolled in any other professional course will not have any issues, but it’s the arts & sciences and the BBM, BCA graduates who will be in trouble, as these courses are only of three years duration. Biruda suggests that this additional one-year gap can be filled by taking up one- year PG diploma programs. Students can then go ahead and apply for the master’s program.
On successful completion of their 16th year of study, 10+2+4, students can take up their masters, which will be of 2 years duration. To conclude Biruda says, all arts and science
or BBM students who wish to pursue their master’s in the US will have to take up an additional PG diploma course before they commence their master’s course.
