Interest in the Arts Improves Academic Skills

Involvement in the arts is linked with better academics. Numerous studies have supported this view, finding consistently higher academic and social ratings from artistically- involved youth. Students with higher participation in the arts have better scores in standardized tests than those with lower participation.   
 
If you know your Do re mi’s well, then your mathematical skills will improve because apparently, musical involvement promotes better math skills. This is attributed to the inherent special and geometric reasoning in sheet music, and has the largest effect on low socio-economic status students. Music training is also associated with an enhanced ability to read- specifically phonological awareness, which is a predictor of early literacy. It can be said that arts education overall enacts several cognitive changes.
