In this scholarship students can select any topic, but it must be a true story with reliable sources. The story idea can be about someone they know, a student or family member, or an issue that’s important to them, or something of interest happening in their school, city or country. It must not be a copy of something that is already in the news. Students are to submit a feature or news story. It should be in one of these three formats: newspaper (500-800 words, suitable for publication in a student or local newspaper); or radio (in the form of a radio bulletin, up to two minutes); or television (shot with their own or a borrowed camera, in the style of TV news, up to two minutes).
Students should complete the application form along with the following documents: certified copy of HSC or equivalent qualifications (if they have just completed their HSC, they need to provide before commencing studies); completed project for either the Journalism, Business or Advertising scholarship; resume; career plan statement in 250 words or less; written undertaking that all work submitted is their own. Students can also send their application form through email or they can send it to Macleay College, Level 1, 175 Liverpool Street, Sydney, 2000. They can also apply online.
