Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), established in 1984, is the sixth public university of Malaysia based in Sintok, Kedah DarulAman. Designated specifically as Malaysia’s management University, UUM seeks to reflect this in the design of its various academic programmes and curricula.
UUM is MS ISO 9001:2008 certified. Programmes offered are compliant to Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and come under the purview of Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, to ensure UUM’s academic offerings are industry and market driven. UUM’s College of Business is in the process of applying for the AACSB; the successful acquisition of this accreditation will be a major milestone in UUM’s quest towards eminent management university and world-class status.
The University is a catalyst for regional growth in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. Besides teaching and research, UUM also contributes to the social, economic and intellectual growth of the region through various community projects.
The UUM Campus is located at Sintok, Malaysia. It is 48 kilometers north of AlorSetar, the state capital of Kedah DarulAman and 10 kilometers east of Changlun, a town on the North-South Highway. The 1,061 hectares campus is surrounded by beautiful scenery and lush tropical rain forest and hills, making it one of the most beautiful campuses in the region. The university also has 107 hectares of forest reserve for tourists, a golf course, a camping ground, jungle tracks, an archery range and a deer park.
The UUM campus is about half an hour’s drive from the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, AlorSetar with a railway station close by at Arau, Perlis as well as at AlorSetar. Flights operate daily from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to AlorSetar and taxis and buses are readily available to ferry students to the Campus. UUM is also easily accessible by train and express buses, from all parts of the country as well as from Singapore and Thailand.
