Scholarships in Marine Science for 2013 Entry

The School of Marine Science and Technology offers an award of £1500 Excellence scholarship on commencement of the Marine Biology, Marine Biology and Oceanography and Marine Zoology degree programmes to those students presenting with the following qualifications: Three A's at A2 level two of which must be in science subjects. 39 points in the International Baccalaureate with at least grade 6 attained at Higher Level in each of two science subjects. AAAA at Higher Grade in Scottish Highers to include two science subjects, and A in Advanced Higher Biology. The scholarships are only available to students who choose the School of Marine Science and Technology as their first UCAS choice and are therefore unavailable to students entering through clearing, trade-up or who use the School as their insurance choice.

School of EEE Overseas Scholarships

This scholarship will be awarded to those who are considered to be Overseas Students for fee paying purposes and who meet the conditions of our offer for a place on one of the courses in the School of EEE and choosing this course as their UCAS first choice. Continuation of the scholarship in subsequent years will be conditional on achieving satisfactory performance, i.e. not less than a 55% average in the previous year. The overseas scholarship will be used each year to reduce the University fees which are payable on registration. This scholarship is not available to those applicants applying for the Foundation year or who are fully sponsored by a company or government.

Performance Sports Scholarships

Student requirements

Sporting requirements: Applicants will be required to demonstrate previous and current sporting achievements and a commitment to continue athletic excellence. Selection criteria will be very much based on representative honours at senior or age group level at regional and national level and / or individuals who are part of NGB performance squad. Expectations of the scholar: Successful performance sports scholars will receive substantial funding and preferential treatment from the CPRS. As such certain requirements will be expected from the student. A contract will have to be signed stating that he/she abides by the terms and conditions set out in the contract. These include representing the University in your sport, being an ambassador for both the University and your sport and having a valid sports centre membership. Athletes awarded a Performance Sports Scholarship will be required to outline how the Scholarship is going to be spent by completing a Service Level Agreement (SLA). This will ensure that the athlete channels their Scholarship award to the most appropriate support services for themselves and their sport and use the award effectively. Areas such as coaching, travel, competition expenses, training expenses, sports medicine, equipment, strength and conditioning would be covered.

Civil Engineering Excellence Scholarships

Criteria: £1000 per year of study awarded to all entrants achieving at least AAA at A level on intake into Year 1 of the BEng and MEng programmes. When applying, the offer of a place on the programme of study at Newcastle must be accepted as their UCAS Firm Choice (CF or UF). For Years 2 and 3 (and 4 if appropriate) the award continues, provided excellence is maintained by achieving an average of 65% in the previous year’s study, Paid in the January of the year of study, provided the student is fully registered on the programme and has fully engaged with the programme (i.e. attended regularly, etc), Comparative measures will be used for entrants applying with qualifications other than A levels, Judgement will exclude consideration of AS/A2 General Studies, or its equivalent. Awarded to all new entrants on our Civil Engineering BEng and MEng programmes, providing they meet the criteria £4000 over four years for MEng, £3000 over three years for BEng.

The Recruitment Sport Scholarships

Academic requirements: Recruitment Sports Scholarship awards can be offered to students who gain either an unconditional offer or a conditional offer from the University. The award will only be confirmed once an athlete confirms Newcastle as their first choice and registers at the University. A Recruitment Sports Scholarship does not afford any academic concessions for entry onto a course or towards any course requirements. Organ and Choral Scholarships (UG or PG)

Student requirements

Organ and Choral Scholarships are open to students taking any subject - not just Music. The Organ Scholarship is normally appointed jointly by the University and Newcastle Cathedral. The Cathedral also awards Choral Scholarships to male students who have been offered a place by the University.
