In this video, Kunal Ambasht of EGE Global Education explains the various points to be kept in mind while preparing a ‘Statement of Purpose’
or SOP. Kunal stresses that most students make the mistake of repeating the information already listed on their CVs and mark-sheets in their SOP. There is no point in stating how much you scored in your exams when the mark-sheet already has that information.
It would be better to list any specific achievements made during studies or in a project that the student completed. It is essential for students to clearly think and state on what exactly they wish to do. The SOP should clearly explain how by opting for the specific course the student will be able to fulfil his/her academic and professional goals.
A crisp SOP detailing one’s future plans be it professional or research-oriented higher studies is always attractive. There is no pint in having an SOP that runs aimlessly into pages and pages like a small autobiography. Be simple, to the point and avoid grammatical errors while drafting the SOP!
