  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • be commencing full-time study in a certificate IV, diploma, degree or postgraduate by coursework program at RMIT in 2017 (or part-time with exceptional circumstances)
  • be able to demonstrate financial disadvantage such as:
  • receiving a Government tested low income benefit or having a Centrelink Health Care Card
  • be able to demonstrate educational disadvantage such as:
  1. having a long term medical condition or disability which impacts your study
  2. experiencing difficult family circumstances
  3. were born overseas, are from a non-English speaking background and recently migrated to Australia
  4. are a current or former refugee
  5. completed your secondary education at a School Network Access Program school
  • be relocating from interstate or rural/regional Victoria to study at RMIT
  • have not previously commenced or completed a program at the same level of study or higher

PhD Scholarship in Signal and Image Processing

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • have obtained a letter of offer for a PhD degree at RMIT University in the School of Engineering, Electrical and Computer by the closing date of 29 July 2016. Please refer to the instructions on how to apply for postgraduate research 
  • OR
  • already hold an offer letter from RMIT to undertake a PhD in the School of Engineering, Electrical and Computer
  • possess good fundamental knowledge in signal processing, experimental design or intelligent systems
  • possess excellent mathematical skills (probability theory and statistics, algebra, complex analysis)
  • possess good programming skills in Matlab, C
  • have good teamwork skills
  • have good oral and written communication skills in english language.

Two scholarships are available, one for a local student and one for an international student.

St Vincent de Paul Grant for Students with Disabilities

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this grant student must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or hold a permanent humanitarian visa; asylum seekers may be considered; be an enrolled student of RMIT University at a Melbourne campus; be registered with the Disability Liaison Unit (DLU); be able to demonstrate financial difficulties and require assistive technology to aid their studies.

Application details

Students registered with the Disability Liaison Unit will be recommended to apply for this grant.

Value details

The grant is a one-off purchase of assistive technology (excludes computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones). Technology previously purchased for students include ABBYY Finereader, TextHelp Read and Write, and Dragon Dictate.

RMIT Postgraduate Research International Scholarship (RPIS)

To be considered for scholarship you must hold, or be currently completing:

  • a Master by research
  • a Master by coursework with a significant research component graded as high distinction, or equivalent
  • a Honours degree achieving first class honours
  • a 4 year bachelor degree achieving a GPA of 4 or equivalent (80 per cent or above).

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will only be considered for scholarship if you have previous publications or significant research experience. All other applicants will be considered ineligible.

Value details

A stipend of AUD $29,288 per annum pro rata (full-time mode) which is equivalent to the Government APA rate of AUD $26,288 plus an RMIT top up of AUD $3000; a relocation allowance for the cost of relocating in order to take up your research program, up to AUD $515 per adult and AUD $255 per child to a maximum of AUD $1,540
