The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will soon start accepting PTE Academic scores submitted with student visa applications. Minimum PTE scores set by the DIAC range between 29 and 50 at Assessment Levels 3 and 4, but this will depend on your nationality, education sector and the terms of your study in Australia.
PTE Academic is a computer-based test for non-native speakers of English who need to demonstrate their English language ability to secure a student visa and admission abroad. The test is delivered through Pearson’s global network of test centres operated by Pearson VUE. PTE Academic measures all four language areas: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
The minimum PTE Academic scores which fulfil the UKBA’s criteria for a student visa are as follows:
To meet the UKBA requirement of a B1 level, a student must achieve a minimum PTE Academic score of 36 across all four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. To meet the UKBA requirement of a B2 level, students should achieve a minimum PTE Academic score of 51 across all four skills. These scores predict that a student will perform successfully on the easiest tasks at these levels.
Who accepts PTE scores?
PTE Academic is approved by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) for Tier 4 (student visa) applications when students are required to demonstrate English language competency at a minimum of CEF level B1 or B2. PTE scores are also recognised by almost 80% of universities and colleges in the UK, and many in the US and Australia.
PTE Academic is also accepted by over 400 leading business schools including London Business School, Harvard Business School, Columbia Business School, and INSEAD. PTE Academic is also the only English language test preferred and endorsed by GMAC®, owners of the GMAT®.
