University of Alberta International Baccalaureate Diploma Scholarship

Awarded to International Baccalaureate Diploma graduates with superior academic achievement entering or transferring into their first undergraduate degree program, studying on a Student Visa Permit. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement on courses taken in the full IB diploma program.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

To be considered for a Vanier CGS at the University of Alberta, you must:

Intend to pursue a doctoral degree (or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD) full-time at the University of Alberta in the May 2016 semester or the 2016/17 academic year.
Have completed between zero and 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2016 (ie. may not have begun the doctoral program earlier than Sept 1, 2014).
Have achieved a first-class average (equivalent to 3.5 or greater at the University of Alberta) in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent.
Be seeking financial support to pursue a first doctoral degree (or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD).
Applicants may only be nominated to the national competition by one Canadian university.
Not have already received a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from SSHRC, NSERC or CIHR to undertake or complete a doctoral degree.

The Vanier Scholarships support doctoral studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health-related fields.

Both Canadian and international students are eligible to apply.

Completed and submitted online application form via ResearchNet
Official transcripts (UAlberta transcripts are not required) submitted to the FGSR.  If the FGSR has your official up-to-date transcripts for completed degrees from other institutions on file, these transcripts do not need to be requested again.
Nomination letter completed and signed by the Department Head nominating the candidate and submitted to the FGSR.

U of A Doctoral Recruitment Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

U of A Doctoral Recruitment Scholarship will be awarded to students who:
    are Canadian citizens, permanent residents or international students,
    are admitted or have been recommended for admission to a doctoral graduate degree program by the department,
    will be registered full-time in a doctoral degree program, and
    have an admission GPA of at least 3.7.

Departments might have additional selection criteria; please consult with the department into which you seek admission for more details.

Each department is assigned an allocation (please see table at the end of the page). Individual graduate departments are responsible for selecting nominees based on eligibility criteria and allocations. Departments may choose to nominate individuals based on a variety of criteria including academic record, letters of appraisal, statement of program, applicant's research, potential contributions to research, and other technical experience.

Scholarships will be offered in increments of $5,000. The department may decide how many increments of $5,000 to offer a student.

University of Alberta India Centenary Scholarship

Awarded to students on a study permit with superior academic achievement entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta from a high school in India. Selection based on academic standing, demonstrated leadership qualities based on involvement in extracurricular and community activities, and a counselor or teacher's letter of recommendation. Renewal of funding for the second, third, and fourth years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a full normal course load at the University of Alberta, while studying on a study permit. Students must have graduated from a high school in India and have less than 24 IB, AP, or A-Level credits when beginning their undergraduate program at the University of Alberta. Transfer students are not eligible for this scholarship.Note: Students who receive the U of A India Centenary Scholarship are not eligible for the U of A India Select High School Scholarship.

Students will be considered for this Scholarship if they have applied for both Scholastic Distinction (Entrance Citations) for International Students and International Entrance Leadership.

Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation Award for International Students

Awarded to students(s) on Study Permit(s) with satisfactory academic standing registered in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to student(s) who have demonstrated leadership via extracurricular and community involvement. Renewal of funding for subsequent years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a minimum of 24 credit units of course weight per year in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation.
