The Smith Society helps students without families achieve their dream of a college education. The Smith Society supports former foster youth, orphans, wards of the court, homeless, and runaway youth by offering:

  • Priority enrollment in courses
  • Orientation and academic skills workshops

Regents Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Scholarships are renewable for 4 years for first year students and for 2 years for junior transfers. Renewals are conditional upon meeting academic standards as defined by the faculty Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid.  Students are expected to enroll in 15 units each quarter and to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to qualify for scholarship renewal. To be eligible for the Regents Scholarship you must be a U.S. citizen, an eligible non-citizen, an international student with a valid visa or students qualifying under AB130 or AB131.

Award amounts for are New frosh are $20,000 paid over 4 years and transfer students receive $10,000 paid over 2 years.

Our holistic review of scholarship candidates considers academic preparation as demonstrated through the information provided on the UC application, including courses completed and in progress, grade point average, test scores and accomplishments within the context of opportunities. Leadership qualities, special talents, achievements and awards may also be considered.

Value details

Dean's Scholarships and Awards range from $12,000 to $40,000, split over four years for freshmen.
