NZIDRS New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

In order to apply for the NZIDRS you must meet all five eligibility criteria. These criteria are non-negotiable. You must hold a minimum grade equivalent to a GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale or an A to A+ average in your most recent or highest post graduate tertiary qualification; You must have a confirmed, non-conditional offer of place for a (direct-start) PhD programme at a New Zealand university. You must conduct your PhD study in New Zealand (not from a distance); You must not hold citizenship or PR status in New Zealand or Australia.

University of Canterbury Alumni Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The scholarship supports postgraduate and first-year undergraduate students at the University of Canterbury. Up to four scholarships will be available annually to those who intend to enrol for full-time study at UC in the following year. The scholarships are awarded in two categories: Two scholarships will be available to those who intend to begin their first year of an undergraduate degree programme, who have completed or are completing a University Entrance qualification, and who attended school in the year of application. Two scholarships will be available to those who intend to undertake any year of a programme for a postgraduate degree or postgraduate diploma.

UC International First Year Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

This scholarship recognises and supports top-achieving international students commencing an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury. Recipients must be full-fee-paying international students and may not be citizens of New Zealand or Australia, or holders of New Zealand residence class visas. Applicants must be completing, or have completed on or after 1 January of the year before the year of application, a university entrance-level qualification that permits entry into a UC undergraduate degree programme. Such students who are undertaking, or have completed, a programme at the UC International College are eligible to apply. The scholarship may not be held by students who: have already undertaken partial study in an undergraduate degree programme at a New Zealand tertiary institution; or have applied for Transfer of Credit from a New Zealand tertiary institution to an undergraduate degree programme at UC.

This scholarship recognises and supports high-achieving students entering their first year of the Bachelor of Forestry Science (BForSc) degree programme at the University of Canterbury. Applicants must be intending to enrol full-time in a BForSc degree programme at the University. They must have completed, or be completing, a university entrance qualification, and must have studied at secondary level in New Zealand in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior). International students who meet these requirements are eligible to apply.

UC Computer Science High Achievers Award

This scholarship recognises and supports high-achieving students at the University of Canterbury who are entering their first year of a Bachelor of Science degree programme and majoring in Computer Science. Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a university entrance qualification and have studied at secondary level in New Zealand in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior). International students who meet these requirements are eligible to apply. Applicants must declare their intention to major in Computer Science and to enrol in specified Year 1 Computer Science courses. Recipients who gain direct entry into Year 2 of the degree programme will be exempt from enrolling in the specified courses.

UC Mathematics and Statistics High Achievers Award

This scholarship recognises and supports high-achieving students entering their first year of a University of Canterbury Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree programme and majoring in Mathematics or Statistics. Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a university entrance qualification and have studied at secondary level in New Zealand in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior). International students who meet these requirements are eligible to apply. Applicants must intend to: enrol full-time in a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree programme at the University; and major in Mathematics and enrol in a specified 100-level Mathematics course; or major in Statistics and enrol in a specified 100-level 1 Statistics course. Recipients who gain direct entry into Year 2 of a BSc or BA degree programme will be exempt from enrolling in the specified courses.

UC College of Engineering International Scholarship

The scholarship is tenable by full-time students in a BE(Hons) degree programme at the University. Recipients must be full-fee-paying international students and may not be citizens of New Zealand or Australia, or holders of New Zealand residence class visas. Three of the seventeen scholarships are reserved for students from the United Kingdom (for candidates who have attended, full time, a secondary school in the United Kingdom in the year of application, and who, at the time of application, are citizens of that country).

Lyttelton Port Company Directors' UC Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

This scholarship will be available to applicants who have a parent who, on the application closing date in the year of application, is employed, full-time or part-time, by the Lyttelton Port Company and has been so for not less than 12 months. By 10 December in the year of application, applicants must have enrolled, or have applied to enrol, for full-time study at the University of Canterbury in the subsequent year. ("Full-time" is here defined as undertaking a course load of at least 105 points over a whole year.) Preference will be given to applicants enrolling for undergraduate study for the first time.

Fitzroy Engineering University of Canterbury Engineering Scholarship

Applicants must be intending to enrol full-time in the Engineering Intermediate programme at the University of Canterbury, and must be intending to undertake a programme for a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree in Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering at the University. Applicants who gain Direct Entry to the First Professional Year of one of the above Engineering programmes will also be considered. Recipients must have completed a university entrance qualification in the Taranaki Region in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior to the gap year).

Edward and Isabel Kidson Scholarship

The object of each scholarship is to enable a graduate of a university of New Zealand, who is of good character and who has shown an ability in physics or a combination of physics and mathematics, to undertake further advanced study or research whether in New Zealand or elsewhere, in Meteorology; or, should there be at any time or times no suitable candidate for an award of the scholarship for that purpose, then to undertake further advanced study or research in some other branch of science whether in New Zealand or elsewhere.

The scholarship is tenable for study towards a research doctoral degree at the University and is offered to the top-ranked candidate or candidates for a University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship who will be studying, in the discipline of Education. A successful candidate will have either already accepted, or will have qualified to be offered, a University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship.

UC Doctoral Scholarships

This scholarship supports students for study towards a research doctoral degree at the University of Canterbury. The scholarship is tenable by full-time students engaged in study for a doctoral degree at the University. Applications must be made prior to, or within the first six months after, enrolment in a doctoral degree at the University. The scholarship will be available for the period necessary for a student to complete up to 3.00 EFTS of enrolment.

UC Doctoral Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

Eligibility requirements

This scholarship supports students of high academic achievement who have a significant disability, for study towards a research doctoral degree at the University of Canterbury. To be eligible for the award of the scholarship, a candidate must have a disability that significantly impairs the ability to study. Applicants may be either intending to enrol in a programme for a doctoral degree at the University or already enrolled in such a programme. Normally, the applicants in the latter category will be considered only if they are in their first year of such study.

UC College of Engineering Mathematics and Statistics STAR Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must have completed the STAR course MATH199. They may not have been enrolled, in the year of application or in any previous year, in a programme for a degree or for a Certificate of Proficiency. The scholarship is tenable during a student's full-time enrolment at the University in a degree programme with a Mathematics or Statistics major. Recipients must qualify for admission to the University, through achievement of University Entrance or an equivalent qualification, by at least one week before the first day of Semester 1 of the first year of tenure.
