It is expected that approximately six Fellowships will be available for 2015/16. The competition is open to both Home/EU and international students.

50th Anniversary Research Scholarships

Criteria: Candidates must hold a good Honours degree (First or 2i) or a Master's degree at merit or distinction in a relevant subject or equivalent. The scholarship competition is open to all new postgraduate research applicants. Current Kent research students are not eligible for this scholarship. UK, EU and overseas fee paying students are invited to apply. Please note that overseas students must have the appropriate documentation to evidence eligibility to work in the UK. These scholarships are open to all applicants for a PhD wishing to pursue research in the following fields: social anthropology, environmental anthropology, biological anthropology or biodiversity conservation.

Candidates must: hold a Bachelor's degree (1 or 2.1), or Master's degree (merit or distinction) from the University of Kent; hold an offer of a place for a full-time postgraduate research degree at University of Kent for the following academic year (current research postgraduate students will only be considered in exceptional circumstances); demonstrate that they have made a contribution to the wider University community, for example, through Students' Union activities - societies, sports, volunteering - or acting as a student representative on University committees; have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to: explain their research clearly and without jargon to non-experts, convey their passion for their research to a wider audience, convince the panel of their research's wider value, act as 'ambassadors' for both the University and their subjects; be prepared to attend an interview in person at Canterbury on a date to be advised (There are no alternative dates).

The Article 26 Award 2015

Eligibility Criteria: To meet the eligibility criteria of the Award, applicants must: Be an asylum seeker or the partner/dependent of an asylum seeker; OR an asylum seeker/partner/dependent who has been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status and; Have a conditional or unconditional offer of undergraduate study from the University of Kent, having applied through UCAS, Be currently attending a school, college, community or voluntary group which can provide a reference in support of their application, Be unable to access mainstream funding, e.g. student finance or a local authority grant, Live within commuting distance of the University of Kent (i.e. within the county of Kent), Not require support for living expenses or accommodation. The University of Kent, in partnership with the Article 26 Project, will be offering one Article 26 award for undergraduate entry in September 2015. This award is aimed at helping those seeking asylum in the UK to progress to higher education.

Gurkha Scholarship for Study

Criteria: Open to serving or former members of Gurkha brigades located in Kent (The Royal Gurkha Rifles and The Queen's Gurkha Engineers) and their dependents. Priority will be given to those wounded in conflict and their dependents. Undergraduate applicants must have received and accepted (as their first choice) an offer for full-time undergraduate study at Kent for 2015-16. Postgraduate applicants must have received and accepted an offer for full-time postgraduate study at Kent for 2015-16. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Open to Home/EU and Overseas applicants. Overseas applicants must present appropriate immigration documentation showing that they are able to legally attend the University of Kent for the course on which they are registering.

The Christine and Ian Bolt Scholarships

Applicants must: hold an excellent bachelor's (1st or 2.1), or master's degree (merit or distinction); hold an offer of a place, or be a currently registered student, for a full-time postgraduate research degree at University of Kent for the following academic year within the Faculty of Humanities or Social Sciences; have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to: explain their project clearly and without jargon to non-experts, convey their passion for their project to a wider audience, convince the panel of the project's wider value, act as 'ambassador' for both the University and their subject. The successful applicants will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, achievements to date in their chosen field and their communication skills. Preference will be given to students and to candidates who have not had the opportunity to live or study for an extended period of time in the USA. Successful applicants will be awarded up to £10,000 each (to include tuition fees) to support a sustained period of research in America for up to one year. In exceptional circumstances, the scholarship holders may be invited to re-apply for a further one year's funding.

Economics Alumni Scholarships

There are scholarships of £1,000 each, available for undergraduates currently in Kent's School of Economics who will graduate in July and continue with an MSc starting in September 2015. To be eligible students must achieve a final overall mark of 65% or above.

BUNAC Scholarships

The BEST (BUNAC Educational Scholarship Trust) scholarships offer financial assistance to eligible applicants who are looking to undertake postgraduate study in the USA or Canada. They are funded by the BEST Scholarship Trust which is an independent trust administered by BUNAC on behalf of the BEST trustees. At the judging stage, preference is given to those whose proposed study in North America is likely to do most to further transatlantic understanding and/or to those who are required to go to the US or Canada to do a specific course. Candidates cannot already be engaged in their course of study in North America at the time of application although they should be looking to apply to courses in their chosen field.

Lanigan Scholarships

The School of Engineering and Digital Arts offers a number of Lanigan Scholarships each year to overseas fee-paying applicants starting the following undergraduate courses: Bioengineering BEng, Computer Systems Engineering BEng, Computer Systems Engineering MEng, Digital Arts BA, Electronics and Communications Engineering BEng, Electronics and Communications Engineering MEng, Multimedia Technology and Design BSc. The Scholarship will be an award of £1,000 towards the cost of tuition fees payable mid-December of the year of entry. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit upon entering their course at Kent. Music Development Award (Returning Students)

Student requirements

Returning BMus students on the Music and Popular Music degree programmes who are already receiving music lessons as part of their course cannot apply for this award on their principal discipline. Scholarships will normally be allocated only to those students whose musical interests and talents can be supported within the University community. The number of years of instrumental and/or vocal study and experience as well an applicant's potential will be taken into account.

School of English MA Scholarships 2015/16

What this means to MA applicants: Successful applicants in 2015/16 will be eligible for the following scholarships, all of which aim to support one student on each of our specialist MA programmes. The scholarships will be in the form of a fee waiver, but with an additional maintenance bursary of £1500. Part-time students and students applying for programmes with a term in Paris are also eligible. These scholarships are: The Woolf scholarship (for students on the MA in English and American Literature), The Dickens scholarship (for students on the MA in Dickens and Victorian Culture), The Burney scholarship (for a student on the MA in Eighteenth Century Studies), The MA in Postcolonial Studies scholarship, The MA in Critical Theory scholarship, The MA in The Contemporary scholarship, The Creative Writer's scholarship. In addition to these new scholarships the school will continue to offer the following: One fully funded School of English MA scholarship - a fee waiver plus an additional stipend at AHRC rate (currently set at £9,681 p/a for 2014/15), One international scholarship (to cover fees at the international rate), One fee-waiver scholarship for part-time students, Two departmental awards - The Ian Gregor Scholarship, which pays home fees and a £500 bursary for one year's full-time study, and the Sasha Roberts Scholarship, which is an award of £2,000.

The Kent Scholarship for Academic Excellence 2015

Traditionally, this scholarship has been awarded to all those who achieve AAA at A level (or specified equivalents). For our 50th Anniversary (2015), we have extended this scholarship to include those who achieve AAB at A level (or specified equivalents) where one of the subjects is either Mathematics or a Modern Foreign Language. The scholarship will be awarded to UK, EU and Overseas applicants to the University of Kent that meet all the criteria below: are entering the first year (Stage 1) of undergraduate degree study at the University of Kent's Canterbury or Medway campus from September 2015, has achieved the required grades for at least one of the qualifications specified below, has not attained any qualification higher than those listed below (i.e. does not already hold an undergraduate degree), has satisfied conditions of entry to the University of Kent..
