Dean's Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Dean's Scholarships are chosen by the dean of each of the four undergraduate colleges at UNH: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the Tagliatela College of Engineering, and the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences. The selection criteria will be made by each college based on the applicant pool.  Recipients will be notified directly by the college of study in the first two weeks of February.  The Dean's Scholarship is awarded in addition to any of the other merit-based scholarships.

This award is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree. It is renewable for up to a maximum of eight semesters and applied only to tuition.

Application details

To be considered, applicants must have a complete application on file with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the Early Action deadline of December 1.

Distinguished Scholar Awards

Eligibility requirements

Students who have achieved academic success in high school but have not achieved the SAT or ACT requirements for the Freshman Presidential Scholarship are eligible for this award.  The Distinguished Scholar Award varies depending on the student's SAT or ACT score and GPA. 

The Distinguished Scholar Award is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining a required minimum GPA and satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree. It is renewable for up to a maximum of eight semesters and applied only to tuition.

Application Process:

To be considered for one of our academic scholarships, all you need to do is apply for full-time undergraduate admission. If accepted, you will automatically be considered for an academic scholarship.

  • Students who apply under Early Decision or Early Action and are accepted are given priority consideration for all merit-based scholarships.
  • Award decisions will be based upon your academic credentials at the time of your admissions decision.
  • Students must have a completed application for admission on file by May 1 for the fall semester or January 1 for the spring semester in order to be considered for an academic scholarship.
  • Awards are based upon the availability of funds.

The following are awarded at the discretion of the University of New Haven and, unless otherwise noted, require no special application. Students who qualify for these scholarships will be notified by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the time of their acceptance to the University. Please note that by receiving these scholarships it does not exclude students from applying for the traditional need-based financial aid programs.

Presidential Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

A student who has achieved academic success in high school and on the SAT or ACT is considered for this scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship varies depending on the combination of the applicant's SAT/ACT score and cumulative GPA.  Awards range from $20,000 - $24,000 per academic year.

The Presidential Scholarship is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree and a B (3.0) cumulative grade point average. It is renewable for up to a maximum of eight semesters and applied only to tuition.

Charger Award

Eligibility requirements

This award is presented to students who exhibit strong and consistent academic performance, but do not qualify for one of the other academic awards (Presidential and Distinguished Scholarships).  This scholarship is awarded by the Scholarship Committee of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The Charger Award is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining a required minimum GPA and satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree. It is renewable for up to a maximum of eight semesters and applied only to tuition.
