University of St Mark & St John Elite Sport Scholarships

Student requirements

This is available to students recognised by their governing body as ‘elite’. Applicants must be studying on a University of St Mark & St John degree programme to be eligible for a sports scholarship. They must have represented their chosen sport at national/international level. They can only apply for one scholarship per academic year. All sports scholars must represent the University in the BUCS Championships, Varsity and other related student sports championships. For Elite Athletes at Major Nation Senior International standard, maximum of £3000 per annum in value; for National/International age group athlete, expenses budget for sports related costs up to a maximum value of £1500 per annum; for Sub-Elite Athletes, expenses budget for sports related costs up to a maximum value of £500 per annum are available. In addition to this funding, the scholarship includes: membership of University St Mark & St John Sports Centre at no cost; use of Sports Therapy Clinic at no cost; nutritional and dietary advice at no cost; sports Psychology support; coaching and Mentoring Support and university St Mark & St John sports uniform at no cost. Students will need to apply for this scholarship on an annual basis irrespective of whether they have been offered a sports scholarship during previous years.

University of St Mark & St John Aquatic Elite Sport Scholarships

Student requirements

This is available for students recognised by the ASA/British Swimming as ‘elite’. Applicants must be studying on a University of St Mark & St John degree programme to be eligible for an Elite Aquatic Scholarship. They must have competed at a minimum of national level (major swimming/diving nation) or represented their chosen sport at international level (including youth/junior level). They can only apply for one scholarship per academic year. In the case of Elite Swimming Scholars, such athletes must represent the University in the BUCS Championships, Varsity and other relevant university events (other than in agreed and extenuating circumstances). For Elite Athletes (Major Nation Senior International), awards can go up to 100% scholarship offers and are bespoke to each successful individual applicant. For elite Athletes (Minor Nation Senior International or GBR National/International age group athlete): Expenses budget for swimming/diving related costs (i.e., meet entries, accommodation at meets etc) up to a maximum value of £3,000 per annum. Sub-Elite Athletes: Expenses budget for swimming/diving related costs (i.e. meet entries, accommodation at meets etc) up to a maximum value of £500 per annum. In addition to funding, the scholarship is constructed from the following menu of options and are subject to negotiation: free membership of University Sports Centre; free use of Sports Therapy Clinic; free nutritional and dietary advice; Sports Psychology support; Coaching and Mentoring Support; Negotiated potential additional support with coaching costs through the ASA Plymouth Beacon Programme Bursary Scheme and free sports uniform. Students need to apply for this scholarship on an annual basis irrespective of whether they have been offered a similar scholarship in a previous year.
