Chancellor's Masters Scholarship (2016)

All applicants (UK, EU and non-EU) who either hold or expect to achieve a first-class undergraduate honours degree from any UK higher education institution or who hold or expect to achieve an excellent undergraduate degree from a university within the European Union (see attached table for criteria) are eligible; You must apply for an eligible Masters course (see list below) and receive and accept an offer by 1 August 2016 (applications received after 1 August may be considered if all available awards have not been allocated); You must meet all the University's general entrance requirements. All full-time taught Masters degree courses at the University of Sussex are eligible (e.g. MA, MSc, LLM) excluding the following courses: Postgraduate diplomas (including Common Professional Examination (CPE), Law and Economics) LLM in Corruption, Law and Governance (delivered in Qatar) Masters degrees in Social Work (if receiving a bursary) Social Work post qualifying Masters degrees PGCE courses and schools direct teaching courses MSc Automotive Engineering MA degrees in IDS apart from MA Gender and Development Masters degrees at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (However, joint Masters degrees and the joint PG Diploma in Physician Associate Studies are eligible) In addition, masters students funded by the research councils (e.g. those receiving ESRC 1+3 funding) are not eligible.

Dr John Birch Music Scholarship (2016)

Student requirements

Must be Grade 8 in chosen instrument and undertake an audition. Recipient must agree to perform in a minimum number of institutional events.

Pegge Scholarship for MSc Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems (2016)

Student requirements

The Pegge Scholarship is available to students on the MSc in Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems. The scholarship is available for those showing high academic ability and potential and for whom the scholarship will make a difference in allowing access to the course.

Application details

No formal scholarship application is necessary for this award. The awarding committee will make a decision based on the information provided on the Sussex online application form for studently applying for the Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems MSc course. The successful candidate will be notified by the end of August 2016.

Collaborative Doctoral Studentship

Student requirements

Students could be eligible for UK/EU or for international fees, but overseas fees are around four times higher, so this may not suit your partner organization. The award is specifically for collaborating with non-HEI partners and so will be dependent upon confirmation of funding by the external partner. Applications should demonstrate: Research Excellence, Strength of the Collaboration, Research Training Environment and Fit with School plans. The studentship includes stipends, fees and student research and training expenses (consumables, travel, and conferences fees). Minimum stipend and fees for 3 years will be £56,006; Minimum stipend and fees for 3.5 year years will be £65,708. Apart from stipends and PhD fees, students may have access to: Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) which covers travel, conferences, lab consumables, small equipment, facilities, and training courses. These generally range from £200 per year in the Arts and Humanities, to £750 per year in the Social Sciences and £1,650 to £5,000 per year in laboratory Sciences and an overseas fieldwork grant – again dictated by the needs of the project. The ESRC standard allocation equates to around £150pa.

Students will receive a minimum Stipend (15/16) - £14210 and Fees (15/16) - £4068. Apart from stipends and PhD fees, students may have access to: Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) and an overseas fieldwork grant.

Sussex Excellence Scholarship (2016)

Student requirements

This is a merit-based award recognising, and rewarding, undergraduate students who achieve at the highest level at A Level, BTEC or International Baccalaureate. Students must have achieved a minimum of: AAA in A Level; Distinction, Distinction, Distinction in the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (QCF); 36 points overall in the International Baccalaureate Diploma; Mixed BTEC and A Level combinations of equal 'size' to 3 A Levels / BTEC Extended Diploma (for example, at least a Distinction in BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (QCF) plus AA in two A Levels; or Distinction Distinction in BTEC Diploma (QCF) plus A in an A Level). All subject areas are eligible except Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) degrees. They must have accepted the University of Sussex as their firm choice.
