The Deirdre Russell Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 to support postgraduate research students in the discipline of Speech Pathology. The scholarship is open to students who have successfully completed the full-time equivalent of at least one year of higher degree research in the discipline of Speech Pathology at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Selection is based on academic merit and the applicant’s performance during their first year of candidature.

Mary Frances Stephens Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The Mary Frances Stephens Scholarship was established in 2010 to support postgraduate research in the discipline of Occupational Therapy with a preference for projects with an inter-disciplinary involvement. The scholarship is open to students who have successfully completed the full-time equivalent of at least one year of higher degree research in the discipline of Occupational Therapy at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Selection is based on academic merit and the applicant’s performance during their first year of candidature.

To apply, applicants must email the completed application form, annual progress report and have a referee report (sent by the referee) to the HDR Admin Centre.

Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme

Selection Criteria

  • Selection will be based strictly on academic merit as per the University’s admission requirements
  • Only applicants with unconditional offers of admission will be considered;
  • Only applicants who are neither citizens of Australia and New Zealand nor a permanent resident of Australia will be considered;
  • Specifically for tier 2 scholarships, only applicants who are citizens of the nominated country will be considered;
  • Students who have already commenced or have transferred with credit exemptions and/or advanced standing, are not eligible.
  • Students applying for their second University of Sydney Degree will be eligible for the scholarships so long as they have not been recipients of a University of Sydney scholarship in their first University of Sydney degree.
  • University of Sydney Foundation Program (USFP) students articulating into full degree University of Sydney CRICOS registered programs will also be eligible for the scholarships and will be assessed similarly to all other direct applicants on the basis of academic merit.

  • No separate application is required for the scholarship.
  • All eligible applicants with an unconditional offer by a specified cut-off date will be considered for the scholarships.

Faculty of Science Dean's International Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in the final year of a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Science or relevant discipline, or an equivalent degree (such as a combined Bachelors/Honours/Masters degree), at an international university (a non-Australian university). The final year of the degree must include a research component which accounts for a minimum of 25% of the year;
  • Have achieved a GPA greater than 85 or an average A grade, or have a relevant subject specific GPA of 90, or equivalent;
  • May not be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold permanent residency in Australia;
  • Be commencing full time postgraduate research study at the University for the first time;
  • Not be in receipt of any other tuition fee scholarship;
  • Successfully complete their 4th year of their current Bachelors Degree in Science meeting the academic requirements of the scholarship and complete in time to commence studies at the University of Sydney in the relevant year and research period.

To be considered for the Dean's International Postgraduate Research Scholarship for commencement from January to March 2018 (Research Periods 1 and 2) you must:

  • Apply to Doctor of Philosophy in the Division of Natural Sciences via the online course application, and
  • Apply to the Dean's International Postgraduate Research Scholarship via the online scholarship application, by 30 April 2017.

Commencement July - October 2018:

To be considered for the Dean’s International Postgraduate Research Scholarship for commencement from July to October 2018 (Research Periods 3 and 4) you must:

  • Apply to Doctor of Philosophy in the Division of Natural Sciences via the online course application, and
  • Apply to the Dean's International Postgraduate Research Scholarship via the online scholarship application, by 30 November 2017.

To be considered for the Dean’s International Postgraduate Research Scholarship you must satisfy eligibility criteria.

Conditions of award

There are a limited number of Dean’s International Postgraduate Research Scholarships, and applicants should be aware that they are awarded on an academic merit-based, competitive basis.

Selection process

Selection for a Dean’s International Postgraduate Research Scholarship is a merit-based and highly competitive process. Candidates will be selected in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated academic excellence through current studies; and
  • Demonstrated high quality, innovative research capacity.

Applications will be reviewed and final selections decided by a committee comprising senior University of Sydney academic staff, and may include international representatives.

Cormack Rowlands Award

The Cormack Rowlands Award is open to all current International House residents enrolled full time in a course at the University of Sydney. The award is to be used within Australia during the academic year for a project to overcome disadvantaged. Individual residents or groups of residents can submit proposals, and creativity and entrepreneurship are encouraged.

Research Training Program Fee Offset and Stipend Scholarship (International - formerly IPRS)

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the RTP Fee Scholarship/USydIS, you must:

  • Be an international student commencing full time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at this University.
  • Be a student undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as within the areas of its current and emerging research strengths.
  • Not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree, or, if undertaking a Research Master's degree, not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Master’s degree.
  • Not have held an Australia Award scholarship within two years prior to commencing the RTP Fee Scholarship.
  • Not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution.
  • Not previously have received an RTP Fee Scholarship, unless the previous scholarship was for a Master by Research degree that you have completed and you are now applying for a doctorate research degree.

Application details

Those under consideration for an RTP Fee Scholarship will automatically be considered for a University of Sydney International Scholarship, which also covers tuition fees and provides a stipend. Neither of these awards requires a separate application. Eligibility for the scholarship is based on a student's course application.

To be considered for an RTP Fee Scholarship, a student must:

  • Download and complete the Research Experience Evidence Template according to the guidelines in the Research Experience Guide
  • Complete an application for admission for a Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy. In the application form for admission, when prompted, ensure you tick the relevant section on the admission form "Do you wish to be considered for an Research Training Program Fee Scholarship or University of Sydney International Scholarship (USydIS)?"
  • Upload the Research Experience form as evidence of application for RTP Fee Scholarship when submitting their course application.
  • Upload all other required supporting and Faculty specific documentation for application for admission.

R.J. Chambers Honours Scholarship in Accounting

Business Leader Postgraduate Scholarship

Applicants applying for admission to the Business School in a Master’s degree are automatically considered for this award when meeting the initial selection criteria of:

  • an Australian-equivalent average of at least 75% in a prior University  degree awarded and;
  • a successful admission offer to one of the eligible degrees listed below:
