New University Scholars Program

Eligibility requirements

Renewable - Up to 4 semesters. Enrollment in 15 credit hours per semester is required for disbursement of this award. Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Students must participate in and complete required activities associated with the New University Scholars program for retention of the award.

Annual Award: Two Year Award: A sum of $2,000 ($1,000 each semester) per year for a maximum of 4 semesters.

Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a program of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE).  The cumulative University of Utah GPA requirement is 3.0 or above.

This award represents a tuition discount for nonresident high school seniors who will be first-time entering freshmen only. Transfer applicants and continuing non-WUE University of Utah students are not eligible for consideration. A limited number of awards will be made, based on academic merit. Applicants must be permanent residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, South Dakota, Oregon, Washington, or Wyoming.

Nonresident U of U Merit Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and must complete 24 hours of course work (20 of which must be graded) every two semesters. Grades are reviewed after the second, fourth, and sixth semester.

Other Requirements: Merit scholarship consideration will be based on the ACT/SAT test score with which students are admitted. Results from tests taken after the official October test date, initial or retakes, will not be taken into consideration for scholarship eligibility.

Application Information: Apply to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by taking the required tests. Check with your high school counseling center for detailed application procedures.

Additional Application Requirements: Qualification as a National Merit Semifinalist (the pool from which finalists and eventual winners are selected) is based on the results of the PSAT/NMSQT, open to all high school juniors. The test is administered in most high schools in October and must be taken in the junior year. Additionally, students must notify the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that the University of Utah is their first choice school by May of their senior year in order to be sponsored as a National Merit Scholar by the University.

Alumni Nonresident U Tradition Award and Heritage Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

A scholarship for nonresident high school seniors who will be first-year entering freshmen, and nonresident transfer students who matriculate at the University of Utah seeking an undergraduate degree, and who have at least one parent or grandparent who holds a degree from the University of Utah. Freshmen applicants must complete the admission process to the University of Utah by December 1 and transfer applicants by March 1st . Freshmen applicants must be admitted with the University of Utah current year's minimum GPA, ACT/SAT score. Transfer applicants must be admitted with the current year's minimum transfer GPA. Full-time enrollment (12 course hours per semester) is required.

Additional Application Requirements: Nonresident students of alumni parentage who receive more than one nonresident University of Utah award offer will need to indicate a preference for one award and decline all others.

Heritage Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 to $6,000.

Freshman Academic Achievement Award for Non-Residents

Other Requirements

Results from tests taken after the official October test date, initial or retakes, will not be taken into consideration for scholarship eligibility. This one year scholarship is Non-renewable. It cannot be deferred to another academic year.

No separate application required. Complete the admissions process by December 1. Only applicants, who have completed the admissions process by December 1, by having submitted all required documents, will be considered for the Freshman Academic Achievement Award for Non-Residents.

International Center Scholarship for International Students

Eligibility requirements

Complete at least two semesters at the University of Utah by May 3. Are in the U.S. on an F-1 visa. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Are an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Utah. Demonstrate active engagement in the campus and/or community through participation in student clubs, service opportunities, campus programs, and/or community programs and events.

Additional Application Requirements: An unofficial transcript from the University of Utah indicating cumulative GPA and courses taken for at least two semesters. Transcript must be printed after February 15. A typed, one-page, double-spaced essay describing the applicant's contribution to the campus or local community and why the applicant believes he or she is deserving of the scholarship. A one-page letter of recommendation (from a professor, staff member, community service professional, or employer) addressing the applicant's contributions and engagement on campus and community life. Applicant's name must be included at the top of each submitted single-sided page.

Each scholarship is valued at $4,000 and will be applied as a tuition waiver of $2,000 in fall and spring

University Nonresident President's Scholarship

No separate application required. Complete the admissions process by December 1. Only applicants, who have completed the admissions process by December 1, by having submitted all required documents, will be considered for the Nonresident President's Scholarship.

Value details

The scholarship includes an additional annual $750 cash stipend divided between the fall and spring semesters.
