About Rhode Island College

Overview

Rhode Island College was established in 1854 and is the first public educational institution in Massachusetts. Based out of a beautiful 180-acre campus in Providence, Rhode Island College comprises five schools that offer over 90 majors and programmes. RIC as it is popularly known welcomes students from around the world and currently there are around 9,000 students enrolled on a wide variety of programmes. Programmes in Nursing, Accounting and Social Work are quite popular among international students.

About the accommodation

The Office of Residential Life and Housing at Rhode Island College is dedicated to providing an open and respectful environment that is caring, positive and safe. Each of the six residence halls features social lounges, along with laundry and kitchen facilities. Each hall has its own character and style. Browne, Thorp, and Weber Halls are designed with suites of eight to twelve single rooms adjacent to a study-lounge area. Sweet and Willard Halls feature double occupancy rooms, and Sweet Hall and New Hall have provisions for students with disabilities. Five are coed and one is for female students. New residence hall is a co-educational hall designed in apartment and suite style rooms housing 366 students. Each unit houses four students in both single and double occupancy rooms. There is a common laundry facility and elevator access. Browne Hall is an all female hall designed in a suite style housing 156 students. Each suite offers twelve single rooms off of a large common living room area. There are two suites per floor. Twelve students share a bathroom with three sinks, two showers and two toilets. Browne is only high-rise residence hall with six floors that are accessible by two elevators. Sweet Hall is a co-educational hall designed in a more traditional style of hall housing 210 students. There are five floors consisting mostly of double rooms, with nine triples. Thorp Hall is a co-educational hall designed in a suite style housing 144 students. Each suite offers eight single rooms off of a common living room area. Weber Hall is a co-educational hall designed in a suite style housing 180 students. Each suite offers ten single rooms off of a common living room area. Willard Hall is a co-educational hall designed in a suite style housing 140 students. Each suite, containing single and double rooms, is accessible from an outside courtyard area.
