St. John’s University was established more than 150 years ago to provide the youth of New York City with a moral and intellectual education. The university holds dear the Judeo-Christian ideals of respect and dignity of every individual as it offers students a Catholic and Vincentian education, supplemented by the resources of New York City and the network and support needed for success.
St. John’s benefits from the city’s unique academic and professional opportunities, cultural diversity, and intellectual resources. The university offers an internationalized curriculum, supported by collaboration with other institutions around the globe, opportunities to study abroad, and online degrees.
Programs at St. John’s, which encompass a core curriculum that includes classes focused on domestic and international social justice and cross-cultural engagement, are offered by six schools and colleges—The School of Education, School of Law, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies, and St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
University career services offer programs to guide students as they develop their career skills and explore prospects. Career advisors help connect students to local and global employer partners and a thriving network of more than 190,000 alumni. Students will find a friendly residential campus in New York City with a host of clubs and organizations, ultramodern facilities, and the convenience of easy access to support services and campus recreational facilities.
St. John’s University Career Services offer an extensive range of resources and services, all aimed at giving students the best platform for success as they complete their education and begin working in their chosen field.
Students can make use of the wide range of tools and arranged events, including annual job fairs, mentoring opportunities, and more. Career advisors offer assistance finding internship opportunities and preparing for interviews. They can help discuss a student’s options if they don’t have a set career path in mind.
As a result of these resources and the university’s focus on graduate success, more than 83 percent of undergraduate students and 94.6 percent of graduate students are employed directly or indirectly in their field upon graduation. Not only that, but almost 97 percent saying that they would recommend St. John’s to other potential students.
No successful university can rest on its laurels, and St. John’s University exemplifies this with its approach to developing not just its students, but the institution itself. One such example is the St. Vincent Health Sciences Center currently being built on the Queens, NY, campus and scheduled to open in Fall 2024. It will offer cutting-edge facilities and house the university’s new four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Nursing.
The university also continues its work to modernize all of its existing facilities, an effort which was recently recognized as it was listed in the Princeton Review’s annual summary of the most environmentally responsible colleges. It’s the only school in the New York City area to be included in the list of top 50 “green” colleges.
Funding is essential for the university’s future success. St. John’s has been the recipient of significant donations from alumni and friends of the university—ensuring a continued path of innovation and development.
Since its inception in 1998, the annual President’s Dinner has been a celebration of what makes St. John’s University unique—the vibrant combination of scholarship and service. For more than 150 years, the university has been “faithful to the mission,” committed to extending the opportunity for a superior academic education to deserving students regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds. Funds raised from the President’s Dinner are used to support scholarship assistance for students who, because of economic burdens, might otherwise be unable to realize their dream of a St. John’s education. In the past 24 years, the President’s Dinner has raised more than $48 million in scholarship support for St. John’s students.

Students can explore the full range of scholarships and other funding options through the university’s website. There are also financial aid options and funded awards available through external organizations.
