What can I do with my Australian architecture degree?
A degree in architecture and construction can be a long and laborious journey, and some of you may want to change your minds about being an architect along the way. So what other career options have you got with a major in architecture?
Conservation, landscape and interior design
A degree in architecture or construction will train you in design and creativity. With those, you’ll develop an eye for design and a strong sense of what works and what doesn’t. You can move into artistic roles and explore areas in conservation, landscape and interior decorating. Alternatively, you could even explore a more business-oriented area such as working with marketing teams in web design. Your career options are endless.
Animation and video games
During your course of study, you’ll learn a lot of computer programmes - from 3D modeling and graphic design to drafting programmes. Many other professions use programmes like these. Even if you do not have the knowledge for a particular programme for a specific job, you’ll be able to pick up the skill as you would have the ability to learn new programmes quickly. Want to be an animator or video game designer – no problem!
Planning and building
Constructing buildings is a tough job, but with a solid background in architecture, you’ll be able to cross over into the management of projects easily. Think project management, facility management or even lighting design. These jobs will command higher salaries and there is always a lot of room for promotion and growth.
