Penangite nominated for Emmy Award

US-based journalist Poh Si Teng, received an Emmy award nomination for her documentary on the Islamic State.Poh posted on Facebook to say that her documentary Flirting With the Islamic State was among nominees in the the "Outstanding Interview" category at the 37th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York, US."Unfortunately, Flirting With the Islamic State lost the Emmy to the Cosby Accusers in the Outstanding Interview category,”said Poh, who is from Penang.Poh had co-produced the documentary with Ben Laffin from the New York Times and the video was published by the newspaper on its website last year.The documentary depicts a conversation between a 23-year-old Sunday school teacher and a British man with ties to the Islamic State.

 

In the video, the woman explained how the man had taught her about the IS and the recruitment process of militants worked in the Middle East.According to her Facebook page, Poh, who lives in New York, now works with Al Jazeera as a senior producer. She was previously a video journalist cum producer at NYT.According to a statement from the National Academy of Television Arts and Science (Natas), over 1,000 personalities from the news media industry attended the ceremony where emmys were presented in 46 categories.“The National Academy takes great pride in honoring the men and women that bring us the news of the day while providing us with the background analysis that we need to be well-informed citizens of the world,” said, Chuck Dages, chairman of Natas.
