Why did I choose this university?
I chose to study at University of Technology Sydney (UTS), because I wanted to be an expert in the field of digital communication and the technology behind it. UTS is a leading university when it comes to technology, digital processes, communication and social media, and therefore it was an obvious choice for me.

My goal was to gain new knowledge that would help me understand trends, tendencies and structures within the field of communication. And then be able to take this knowledge and skills home to Denmark, implement it and be one step ahead. UTS met my expectations far beyond that. On top of teaching me and keeping me current with the constant development of digital communication, I also found myself working with relevant cases and clients throughout my study. My experience became even more relevant and I learned a lot about how communication, marketing and PR works “in the real world”.

My first week
My first week was extremely overwhelming with many new impressions and a lot of new faces. UTS had organised a lot of introduction events including speed dating, breakfast, cocktail party etc. so there werelots of opportunities to meet new people and develop new friendships. My biggest struggle in the beginning was the feeling of being very far away from home in a city I knew nothing about. It took my at least three weeks to feel safe in the city of Sydney. But I realised that I had made theright decision about studying my Master in another country when I found myself surrounded by friends after a month and started to get to know the city much better.

My campus
My favourite spot at UTS is the Alumni Green. It’s a large span of lawn and seats nestled in the middle of the campus.  I love that it connects the whole university both in terms of the buildings and the students. At Alumni Green people study, do group work, chill in the sun, eat their lunch and play on the grass. It the perfect combination of a study and leisure spot.

My local area
My local area is the suburb of Surry Hills. Throughout my whole Master Degree I have lived in this area and I absolutely love it. Surry Hills is the combination of Berlin, Nottinghill in London and Soho in New York. On every street, on every corner you will find a small coffee shop or breakfast spot. All the houses are small terraced houses in different colours with small yards in front. My favourite street in Surry Hills is Crown Street, as it the home of the most amazing small cafes, vintage stores, designer shops, book cafes and great restaurants. Definitely worth visiting.

My learning space
I had three lectures and three tutorials every week at UTS. My classes were night classes, and the lectures were always one hour whereas the tutorials often were two hours. We often had seminars which would be a five to eight hour seminar on Saturdays. To do group work I always borrowed a study room at the library and because I live close to campus, I preferred to study at home by myself.

My home
I lived in a share house in Surry Hills with four other people. I chose to do that as I wanted to get to know some people outside UTS as well as I wanted to live with native Australians. This was an amazing experience and I loved living with people who knew Sydney already and therefore could show me around and tell me about all the cool stuff happening around town. I wanted to have a real 'Aussie' experience and I for sure got that by living with Australians.

University of Technology Sydney (UTS) cannot really compare with University of New South Wales and University of Sydney in terms of level of academic and international reputation. However, UTS has large amount of practical classes and workshops that gives you many real training in the field that you are studying. You will be writing less essays and academic articles comparing with usual universities, and more real touch on what you will need after graduating university into the workplace. I would definitely recommend the university to people who are trying to find an education institution that gives you many useful experience that you will need for work, and hoping to study less pure academic classes. show less

Awesome place to study

The fact that the uni is located at the centre of Sydney was a great advantage. Had easy access to public transport. Very good study areas and computer facilities for students. Teachers were very helpful and very approachable. Awesome place to study
