Course summary
This course is for students interested in work based on the application of mathematical, statistical, economic and financial analysis to a wide range of practical problems in long-term financial planning and management. This course allows students to major in both actuarial studies and mathematics or statistics. The actuarial degree is accredited by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust). This means that if students complete the three year Bachelor of Actuarial Studies with grades of credit or above in the relevant units in the program they are granted exemption from Part 1 of the IAAust’s professional exams. If students complete a four-year double degree involving actuarial studies (or the longer combined degree with Law) with grades of credit or above in the relevant units they are granted exemption from Parts 1 and 2 of the IAAust’s professional exams. Career opportunities include banking and finance; energy and environment; general and health insurance; investment; life insurance; management; non-traditional areas such as it, e-commerce, climate change; public sector: Australian prudential regulation authority, Australian taxation office; risk management; superannuation and wealth management.
Entry requirement for international students
Students should have an IELTS (Academic English only) score of minimum 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each section; a TOEFL (paper based test) minimum score of 580 overall, with 53 listening, 52 reading, 59 Structure/ Written Expression, 5.0 TWE; TOEFL (computer based test score of minimum 237 overall, with 19 Listening, 19 Reading, 25 Structure/Writing and TOEFL (internet based test) score of minimum 92 overall, with 18 Listening, 17 Reading, 22 Writing, 22 Speaking.
