Course summary
This highly expressive program will fire student’s imagination while refining their creativity, wit and ingenuity. Students will receive a thorough grounding in character animation covering animation skills, production techniques and studio hardware, enhanced by study of perspective and life drawing, scriptwriting, concept development, graphic processes, communication, editing and sound production. They will develop the skills to produce original films from script to screen including character animation (both 2D and 3D), concept development, story boarding, editing, post production and sound recording. They will also develop the ability to determine the most appropriate animation format for specific projects - traditional drawn animation, computer animation, 3D puppet animation or other experimental media. Their academic studies will be extended by off-campus studio courses to enable them to gain first-hand experience. They will also work alongside Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production students to complete a community project. Students can work in 2D and 3D character animation and visual effects for film, television, computer games and interactive companies, develop animation design and layout, design computer games, create storyboards, become an illustrator and graphic artist or a teacher. Their training in film making and screen writing will also equip them for work in films and the electronic media.
Entry requirement for international students
Students should have completed a senior secondary school qualification regarded as comparable to an Australian Year 12 award. International students whose native is not English should have the following requirements: a minimum overall band score of 6.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 5.5; a minimum score of 550 on TOEFL; an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no score less than 19); no score less than three in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by GELI or ISLPR Language Services only); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
