Course summary
This course offers students a solid grounding in the basics of archaeology then allows them to follow a pathway of interest in the following areas of specialisation: Indigenous archaeology, Maritime archaeology, Historical archaeology, Forensic archaeology, Classical archaeology. Regular field trips and laboratory and practical sessions are features of this program. It produces independent thinkers who can apply their skills to a range of settings, including working effectively in teams. This course aims to: provide students with a substantial grounding in all aspects of archaeology as part of a preparation for a professional career; provide a particular focus on the archaeology of Australia and how the study of archaeology interrelates with Australian society- past and present; achieve a balance in the methodological, theoretical and practical aspects of archaeology; and provide students with a sound background in relation to general and specific issues of cultural heritage management within an Australian context. It prepares students for a professional career in archaeology.
Entry requirement for international students
Students can qualify for undergraduate courses through: year 12 qualifications; adult entry (STAT); TAFE/VET qualifications; and higher education transfers. They should have IELTS (academic) score of 6.0 (6.0 in speaking and writing); TOEFL (paper) score of 550 (TWE 4.5); TOEFL (internet) score of 80 (20 in writing and speaking); Cambridge (CAE) Grade of B or higher; Cambridge (CPE) Grade of C or higher; Pearson English Test overall score of 59 with no communication score less than 53.
