Course summary
This course is a three-year full-time undergraduate degree. It focuses on developing and applying information technology solutions to business problems and prepares students for leadership roles in IT management. The majority of all enrolled local students apply for and receive a $36,000 scholarship and undertake two 22-week industry placements in the Industry-Based Learning (IBL) stream of the degree. Industry partners provide ongoing input into the development of the course to ensure its continued relevance to the needs of major international corporations. The degree produces work-ready graduates who are confident, articulate, computer literate, and attuned to the needs, methods and attitudes of business. Today's global marketplace demands business professionals with cutting-edge IT expertise. Business Information Systems graduates work for Australian and multinational organisations. The Industry-Based Learning stream of the degree creates graduates who are prepared for immediate, productive employment and rapid promotion into broader management. This degree leads to a broad range of graduate careers including business analyst, IT consultant, management consultant, project manager, systems analyst, business management roles, business systems and integration consultant and security and privacy consultant.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have academic Year 12, International Baccalaureate or equivalent academic qualification. VCE prerequisites include units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English, and a study score of at least 25 in further mathematics, or at least 20 in mathematical methods (either) or specialist mathematics. International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites include a score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL or a score of at least 4 in mathematics SL or 4 in further mathematics SL or 4 in mathematical studies SL or 3 in mathematics HL. They must have achieved the following English language proficiency test results: IELTS (minimum test score of 6.5 overall; no individual band less than 6.0); Paper-based TOEFL (minimum test score of 580; a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5); Internet-based TOEFL (a score of at least 90 overall; a Writing score of at least 22; no score lower than 20 on the other sections of the test); Cambridge English CAE (A grade); Cambridge English CEP (C grade).
