Course summary
This course focuses on the electronic systems used in daily life, from simple circuits to highly complex devices and expensive biomedical equipment in hospitals. Students develop an appreciation of the role of engineers in the community, and an awareness of the social and environmental effects of their decisions. The curriculum provides a broad introduction to electronics, with the opportunity to specialise in sustainability in energy production, or biomedical, microelectronic, optical or electronic systems engineering. Major areas of study include: biomedical engineering, optical engineering, electronic systems engineering, sustainable energy production, telecommunications engineering. On completion, graduates are likely to be able to choose from career options in areas such as satellite and mobile telecommunications, microelectronic circuit design, control systems, robotics, and biomedical engineering.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have completed Mathematics determined to be equivalent to the Australian VCE Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods (either) or Specialist Mathematics. They must have completed Australian year 12 or equivalent to other countries. They must also satisfy one of the following English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0 or TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English or TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing or TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20 or satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level which have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University or approved equivalent.
