Course summary

This combined degree allows students to complete two Bachelor programs in five years of full-time study. The Bachelor of Law qualifies graduates for admission to legal practice. It involves an innovative approach to legal education and scholarship. Personalised teaching and development of internet technology in the curriculum reinforce the reputation for innovation. The program provide a coherent, broad-based and interdisciplinary approach to the study of law in both its historical and contemporary settings. The Bachelor of Information Technology specialises in developing the full range of skills required for a career in computer software development. The core program concentrates on developing practical skills in programming, information systems and software engineering. This course is suitable for students with an interest in the application of Information Technology methods and technologies in a legal context and in the legal issues raised by advances in Information Technologies in business and government. Graduates can pursue careers where their Information Technology studies allow them to specialise in their work as a legal practitioner (barrister or solicitor), legal officer in public or private sectors, and in legal academia. Graduates are also qualified to pursue a career in IT, for example as a programmer, systems analyst, project leader, systems development manager, IT sales and marketing, systems engineer, database administrator, end-user support and training, communication systems analysis and design, and IT or management consulting.

Entry requirement for international students

Students should have sound knowledge of mathematics. The required Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for this course is 90.8. No work experience required. Students should also have a minimum IELTS (Academic English only) score of 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each section; minimum TOEFL (paper based test) score of 580 overall, with 53 listening, 52 reading, 59 structure/written expression, 5.0 TWE; TOEFL (computer based test) score of 237 overall, with 19 listening, 19 reading, 25 structure/writing and TOEFL (internet based test) score of 92 overall, with 18 listening, 17 reading, 22 writing and 22 speaking.
