Course summary
This is the first step in a career in legal practice. UniSA Law students will learn the fundamental legal principles of the Australian legal system, and will get an opportunity to specialise their knowledge with their choice of elective courses. Students will develop the knowledge and skills to become a successful legal professional. Practical applications of learning such as mooting, negotiating, witness examination and student placements in legal organisations are built into the degree. UniSA Law students are able to complete the practical training required for legal practice, the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, through the Law Society of South Australia during their final year of study. The degree will satisfy the basic academic requirement for admission to practice law. Coupled with the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice offered by the Law Society of South Australia, graduates will be eligible to seek admission to practice law in South Australia. Students with a GPA of at least 5.3 may be able to complete Honours in Law. Honours study develops critical analytical and research skills to give graduates a competitive advantage in the workforce. The law Honours program is embedded in the Law degree as two courses in the final year and includes completion of a thesis on a legal topic of the student's choice, under supervision by academics who represent the highest proportion of PhD qualified staff in any South Australian law school.
