Course summary
This course provides students with training and skills development in Chinese and Asian cookery; collecting, analysing and organising information, planning and working with others, using mathematical ideas and techniques, solving problems, and using technology; a specific overview of Chinese and Asian cookery methods, preparation of food and kitchen management; basic and advanced skills and knowledge for entry to and operation within the hospitality industry as a chef; and interpersonal skills essential for a successful career in the hospitality industry. Upon successful completion of this nationally recognised course, students are eligible to receive the Certificate III in Hospitality (Asian Cookery), as well as a Statement of Results. Extensive career opportunities exist for individuals skilled in the unique art of Asian cookery. Individuals who have prior training within cookery may pursue employment opportunities in which food preparation is a key focus. Typically, these include work in restaurants, hospitals, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes, retirement villages and aged care centres. This program articulates directly into hospitality and cookery programs at the certificate III level. Students will have the opportunity to pursue both full-time training and apprenticeship opportunities in various areas of industry, with recognition of modules they have previously completed. They may also apply for the Diploma of Hospitality (Management) to further their qualifications in the hospitality industry.
Entry requirement for international students
Students should complete year 11 level or the overseas equivalent plus relevant employment experience. They must satisfy English language proficiency level of IELTS 5.5, ISLPR 2+, TOEFL 197 (CB), 46 (iBT), PTE Academic Score of 42(no communicative skill score less than 42), Cambridge English: Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) of 47 or equivalent.
