Course summary
This program meets the rigorous standards of advanced study, research, critical reflection and significant contribution to knowledge required for a research degree equivalent to the traditional PhD. The Doctor of Design fosters excellence in research and professional practice by enabling individuals to apply appropriate theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches to the development of knowledge in a professional context. By allowing them to take charge of their professional development in design, this course opens the path to promotion and higher engagement in design practice, design research or design education.
Entry requirement for international students
Students should have completed suitable studies in design at a high level of achievement. They should have either one of the following: Swinburne college English for Academic Purposes advanced level certificate at the postgraduate level (EAP 5: pathways - 70 per cent); or obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (academic module) with no individual band below 6.0; or a TOEFL (paper-based) minimum score of 575 (with a test of written English (TWE) score of 5); a TOEFL (computer-based) minimum score of 232 (with written writing score of 5); a TOEFL (internet-based) minimum score of 90 with no band less than 20.
