Course summary

This program aims to produce graduates able to conduct research independently at the highest level of originality and quality. The doctorate is recognition of successful research experience of international standard in the discipline. A doctoral candidate should uncover new knowledge either by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories, the innovative re-interpretation of known data and established ideas, or the application of established knowledge in new contexts.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have completed any one of the following: a masters (honours) degree; a bachelor’s degree with honours class 1; bachelor’s degree with honours class 2 division 1 or qualifications from a university or other tertiary institution deemed by the College Research and Higher Degrees Committee to be equivalent to the requirements set out above. They must also satisfy the following English language requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each subtest; TOEFL score of 575 (minimum 4.5 in TWE); TOEFL computer based test score of 232 (minimum 4.5 in Essay Rating); TOEFL Internet based test score of 89; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English - grade of B or above; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - grade of B or above.
