Course summary
This course aims to enhance the qualifications of practicing translators who are accredited at professional level by NAATI or have had training in translation equivalent to this level (see admission requirements), by teaching them research and practical skills involved in translating highly sophisticated, specialised texts. The course will thus prepare students to take the NAATI advanced translator exam and gain accreditation at that level. This course is suitable for local and international professional translators who wish to upgrade their qualifications in order to gain accreditation as an Advanced Translator. Graduates can pursue jobs as professional translators in public and private organisations.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have completed a bachelor degree with NAATI professional accreditation in translating. Students without NAATI accreditation should first complete the postgraduate diploma or master of translating and interpreting. Students need to obtain a credit grade in the unit TRAN820 - Translation Practice in order to proceed to the Master of Advanced Translation. The current languages available are Chinese and Korean, which are available in semesters one and two, and Japanese which is offered in the semester one intake only. Students who have NAATI Professional Translator accreditation are deemed to have met the English language requirements for entry into this program.
