Course summary
This programme prepares students to immediately take on operational responsibilities in major areas of urban planning: land use planning, property, financing, asset management, local development, environmental management, public services, studies and consulting. They can also join the property-management department of a major industrial or services firm or a team in charge of sustainability or corporate responsibility. The sustainable growth of cities is one of the major challenges of the 21st century. The design and implementation of land use, real estate, environmental or city services projects and local development strategies are becoming increasingly complex and face challenges inherent to a rapidly changing environment. To succeed under these conditions, private companies need technical skills and top expertise, as well as talent in the areas of innovation, management and negotiation, and personnel who can apply a forward-looking approach. Graduates of this advanced master's programme find positions in urban planning, property, city services (transportation, water, telecommunications, etc), consulting and auditing for communities and local development, as well as for international entities. They take on management roles in joint public/private operations and partnerships (property promotion, land use planning). They may also become business managers (urban marketing, property prospecting, etc), financial analysts (banking, property investment, etc), managers of property assets (asset management), consultants (local development, community management, assistance for contractors, sustainability, public services management, etc), project coordinators for communities or managers in urban planning or in architectural or law firms.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must hold degrees equivalent to a master's degree and these may be degrees in engineering, degrees from business schools, degrees in medicine, pharmacy, veterinary science, law, architecture, etc., or a bachelor's degree with three years of professional experience. Other applicants (bachelor's degree) with unusual backgrounds or quality career paths will also be examined as special cases (acceptance not to exceed 30 per cent of total student body). Applicants to be considered for admission must demonstrate their proficiency in English with a TOEFL or TOEIC or IELTS score results; management aptitude test GMAT or TAGE-MAGE. They are required to present a score of English applicants native English speakers or who have pursued three years of graduate studies in English, or who have lived or worked three years in an English speaking country.
