Course summary
This course includes foundation subjects in the areas of business, leisure and society, accounting for decision making, economics, data analysis, customer experience, management and personal professional skills. These subjects are then complemented by specialist topics in tourism management, tourist and leisure behaviour management, tourism and the environment, destination management, conference and events management and tourism policy and planning. It offers choice and flexibility, with the option to combine tourism management with a second major from international business, management and entrepreneurship, marketing and hospitality management. The study of tourism opens new doors in sectors that serve the needs of visitors: theme parks, hotels, airlines, casino’s, clubs, restaurants, attractions, visitor centres, research and education, government policy, environmental management, travel retail, conference and events management and many other related sectors. The study of tourism is moving from a skills-based to a knowledge-based industry and students are internationally recognized for leadership in the tourism area. The study of tourism provides students with a knowledge and understanding of the complexity of the tourism industry, multidisciplinary skills for studying tourism and an ability to critically examine the social, economic and environmental impacts of tourism. It helps to develop the professional skills to create, manage and coordinate a fascinating mix of local and global leisure and travel experiences. They will be able to work not only in the tourism sector but also in the expanding services sector.

The courses are as follows: Accounting for Decision Making; Economics for Business; Managing the Customer Experience; Management, People and Organisations; Personal and Professional Skills in Business; Business Data Analysis; Electives: Tourism Management; Tourist and Leisure Behaviour Management; Tourism and the Environment; Destination Management; Conference and Event Management; Tourism Policy and Planning.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants should have completed 12 years of schooling or equivalent. Successful completion of James Cook University Singapore foundation program will also satisfy the entrance requirement. There are different entry requirements from country to country. They must have IELTS 6.0 (no component lower than 5.5)/ TOFEL 550 (with a minimum written English text score of 4.0) and above; or satisfactory completion of the James Cook University English Language Preparatory Program (ELPP). Students who have successfully completed two years of full-time study in English medium may satisfy the English language requirement.
