Course summary

The finance major gives a broad understanding of the structure and operations of financial markets in management. Students will learn about investment evaluation, decide how to fund activities and understand the roles played by financial markets and instruments. Careers in finance can be broadly defined to include corporate finance, financial institutions, financial markets and various branches of the financial services industry. Marketing is a dynamic area which involves giving a business a competitive edge. This major will provide them with an understanding of consumer behaviour and how marketing works, and the chance to explore various aspects of marketing, including international and Internet marketing, sales, pricing, promotion and distribution strategies. They will explore the ways in which marketing anticipates demands for products, services and ideas by analysing behaviour of competitors and customers.

Entry requirement for international students

Students from Australia must have TER/UAI 70. Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan students should have three ‘Ordinary’ level passes (minimum grade C) and two ‘Advanced’ level passes (minimum of one C and one D grade) in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) or successful completion of a two-year degree at a recognised institution. China, Taiwan and Macau students should have one year of a bachelor degree at a recognised University or completion of the Chinese National University Entrance Examination for admission to key universities in China for a four year degree program (Gao Kao). India and Sub-Continent students should have all India Senior School Certificates awarded by the CBSE with an average of 65 per cent in four subjects or Higher School Certificate awarded by one of the State Secondary Schools Board or Indian School Certificate with an average of 65 per cent in five subjects. Indonesia students must have completed one or two years of a bachelor degree at a recognized institution or SMA/SMU III with an average of 8.0 in four academic subjects from selected high schools. International Baccalaureate students need to have full International Baccalaureate with a minimum total of 24 point from six subjects at one sitting. Three of the subjects must be at the higher level, and one of the six subjects should be English. Malaysian students should have two Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan (Malay medium) (STPM) passes and three credit passes at SPM level and English competence or completed Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools Unified Examination (UEC) in at least five subjects with two ‘A’ grades and two ‘B’ grades (excluding languages) and English competence or equivalent to other countries. All International students must have obtained an IELTS overall band score of 6.0 or a TOEFL score of 550 (paper based); 213 on computer based; 80 on internet based or a “C” grade in Curtin University Test of English.
