Course summary
This program is designed to give students an understanding of the biological, social, and cultural factors which influence how humans think, feel, and behave. It places a strong emphasis on students being actively engaged in current research being conducted in the Department of Psychology. Completion of the Bachelor of Psychology is the first step in undertaking studies to complete a Master of Psychology (Clinical) or Doctor of Psychology (Clinical). Graduates who have completed the APAC accredited program can progress to careers as professional psychologists in private practice, government policy development, health and allied health, education, human resource management, research institutions, or the criminal justice system and correctional facilities. Alternatively, depending on their results, graduates may apply to do a clinical masters or doctorate degree or pursue a research degree.
Program modules
The core subjects are as follows: Level I - Core Subjects: Exploring Psychology I; Exploring Psychology II; Discovering Anthropology; An Introduction to Sociology plus four subjects selected from the master schedule of subjects; Introduction to Counselling; Multicultural, Child and Adolescent Counselling; Effective Writing; Level II - core subjects: Describing and Analysing Behaviour; Experimental Investigation and Analysis of Behaviour; plus a minimum of three subjects from the APAC accredited sequence for the Bachelor of Psychology; Brain and Behaviour; Learning and Behaviour; Memory and Cognition; Human Development across the Lifespan; Health Psychology; Environmental Psychology; Forensic Psychology; Level III - core subjects: Advanced Behavioural Research Design and Analysis, plus a minimum of four subjects at level 3 from the APAC accredited sequence for the Bachelor of Psychology; Cognitive Neuroscience; Social Psychology; Advanced Health Psychology; Principles of Counselling; Introductory Psychometrics, Assessment and Ethics; Human Sensation and Perception; Personality and Individual Psychology; Psychopathology; Behaviour in Organizations; Pass degree: Group project part 1 of 2; Group project part 2 of 2; Advanced topics in psychology Part 1 of 2; Advanced topics in psychology Part 2 of 2; Honours Degree: Psychology thesis Part 1 of 2; Psychology thesis Part 2 of 2; Advanced topics in psychology Part 1 of 2; Advanced topics in psychology Part 2 of 2.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants should have completed 12 years of schooling or equivalent. Successful completion of James Cook University Singapore foundation program will also satisfy the entrance requirement. There are different entry requirements from country to country. They must have IELTS 6.0 (no component lower than 5.5)/ TOFEL 550 (with a minimum written English text score of 4.0) and above; or satisfactory completion of the James Cook University English Language Preparatory Program (ELPP). Students who have successfully completed two years of full-time study in English medium may satisfy the English language requirement.
