Course summary
This program is designed within the Bachelor of Arts framework to give students an understanding of the biological, social, and cultural factors which influence how humans think, feel, and behave. Students can combine psychology subjects with others from business, information technology, or other social science areas. Upon adequate performance in specified core subjects, students can apply to transfer to the Bachelor of Psychology program. Completion of the four-year Bachelor of Psychology or its equivalent is the first step in undertaking studies to complete a Master of Psychology (Clinical) or Doctor of Psychology (Clinical). Graduates can pursue a diverse range of careers in government and human services organisations, business corporations, and the health sector where psychology and arts qualifications are valuable in, for example, media, market research, advertising, public relations and human resources.
Program modules
The core subjects are as follows: Level I - Core Subjects: Time, Truth and the Human Conditions; Our Spaces: Network, Narratives and the Making of Place; Introduction to Counselling; Multicultural, Child and Adolescent Counselling; Effective Writing; plus two subjects selected from the Master Schedule of Subjects; Level II - core subjects: Describing and Analysing Behaviour; Experimental Investigation and Analysis of Behaviour; plus a minimum of three subjects from the APAC accredited sequence for the Bachelor of Psychology; Brain and Behaviour; Learning and Behaviour; Memory and Cognition; Health Psychology; Human Development across the Lifespan; Environmental Psychology; Forensic Psychology; Level III - core subjects: Cognitive Neuroscience; Human Sensation and Perception; Social Psychology; Personality and Individual Psychology; Advanced Health Psychology; Psychopathology; Principles of Counselling; Behaviour in Organisations; Introductory Psychometrics, Assessment and Ethics; plus a minimum of four subjects at level 3 from the APAC accredited sequence for the Bachelor of Psychology.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants should have completed 12 years of schooling or equivalent. Successful completion of James Cook University Singapore foundation program will also satisfy the entrance requirement. There are different entry requirements from country to country. They must have IELTS 6.0 (no component lower than 5.5)/ TOFEL 550 (with a minimum written English text score of 4.0) and above; or satisfactory completion of the James Cook University English Language Preparatory Program (ELPP). Students who have successfully completed two years of full-time study in English medium may satisfy the English language requirement.
