Course summary

This programme is jointly offered by the College of Engineering and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, aims to equip graduates with excellent knowledge and competency in engineering and economics. With the changing dynamics of global economy, growing resource scarcity, and escalating societal and environmental concerns, engineers of the future will face increasing challenges to reconcile engineering activities with these considerations. It is specially tailored for academically confident and all-rounded students. Students will earn two honours degrees in five to five and a half years and can expect diverse career opportunities in the public and private sectors.

Entry requirement for international students

Students will be taking Year 12 national examinations in the year of application in order to be considered for admission and must have completed at least 12 years of general education or equivalent. Submission of IELTS, TOEFL and SAT1 scores are optional except for students with PRC Gao Kao qualification (i.e. students who will be taking Gao Kao in June 2011 and those who have already taken Gao Kao). Scores should be obtained three years prior to the application deadline.

Venue description

Since its establishment as one of the three founding schools of the University, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has grown in size and stature to become one of the largest schools in electrical and electronic engineering in the world. It is today internationally renowned for its high academic standards and strong research orientation. The School is organised into six divisions: The Division of Power Engineering, Division of Circuits and Systems, Division of Information Engineering, Division of Control and Instrumentation, Division of Communication Engineering, and , Division of Microelectronics. The School has more than 180 full-time faculty members of broad and varied backgrounds, and with strong research and professional expertise. They are supported by more than 400 research, technical and administrative staff members. The high calibre of its faculty is matched by a well-developed teaching and research infrastructure comprising one of the most comprehensive and sophisticated constellations of research centres and laboratories in the world. These include 12 state-of-the-art research centres, such as the microelectronics centre, Photonics Research Centre, Centre for Smart Energy Systems, Centre for Modelling and Control of Complex Systems, Network Technology Research Centre and Satellite Engineering Centre. These Centres are complemented by more than 50 laboratories that cover the full range of electrical and electronic engineering activities.

Accommodation details

Graduate housing on campus is provided primarily to new students to help them settle in and adjust to university life. Students may choose from the different types of accommodation available at Graduate Hall, Nanyang Heights and Nanyang Valley. All rooms are furnished with single bed, wardrobe, study desk, fan and internet connection. Undergraduate students are accommodated at 16 Halls of Residence that are home for nearly 9200 students. The halls of residence offer similarly styled accommodation. All the halls offer single and double occupancy rooms and are co-ed by floor or wing. Double occupancy rooms are shared by residents of the same gender. All the rooms are fully furnished and have communal facilities like television rooms, air-conditioned reading rooms, kitchenettes and laundry rooms with washing machines except hall 1 and 2 which share suite-style attachments.
