Course summary
This course aims to provide trainees with an understanding of early childhood education and child development. Their programme provides a high quality education that equips trainees with skills and practical knowledge in programme planning, different approaches in providing an interactive and developmentally appropriate learning environment, intellectually rigorous, up-to-date, and relevant to the needs of existing and future employees of the early childhood industry. It provides application of theory into practice through practicum placement.

The modules are Philosophy of Early Childhood Education, History and Tenets; Human Growth and Development/ The Developing Child; Introduction to Special Needs; Overview Course on Observations, Planning, Implementation, Assessment and Evaluation; Understanding and Presenting the Physical Environment; Language and Literacy; Mathematics: Numeracy Skills; Science: Environmental Awareness; Aesthetics and Creative Expression; Art and Craft; Music and Movement; Self and Social Development; Perceptual, Fine and Gross Motor Skills Development: Children’s Play; Positive Guidance Practices and Classroom Management; Programme Planning: Integrated and Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum for Early Childhood; Resources and the Early Years Learning Environment; Personal Growth and Professional Development; Safety, Health and Nutrition; Partnership with Families and the Community; Vocational Placement 1; Vocational Placement 2.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have the following entry requirements: Current MOE or MCYS registered teachers: GCE ‘O’ Level credits in three different subjects including English as the first language or a minimum band score of 5.5 obtained in IELTS-General Training if applicant does not have a credit in EL1; New MOE or MCYS registered teachers: GCE ‘O’ Level credits in 3 different subjects including English as the first language or a minimum band score of 5.5 obtained in IELTS-General Training if applicant does not have a credit in EL1 or New teachers with foreign qualifications: Completed at least 10 years of formal education; and Passed an examination conducted by the country/ state with credits in 3 different subjects including EL1 and those without a credit in EL1 need to obtain a minimum band score of 5.5 in IELTS-General Training for entry to the CECCE course.
