Course summary
This programme affords selected dance graduates the opportunity to study at Purchase College in the USA for a year. The department is distinctive in its contemporary East-West posture emphasizing contemporary Western and Asian dance practices. However, students may also choose one of the following areas as a major: performance, choreography and teaching. Rigorous practical technique training in ballet and modern dance underpins the comprehensive programme as well as all majors. In this programme regular artist-in-residencies by the degree partner Purchase College, USA as well as frequent local and international guest artists provide students a unique opportunity to participate in global dance trends. Upon completion of this programme, students will have the option to enroll in the relevant degree programme conducted by NAFA in collaboration with overseas partner universities.

The modules include Ballet Dance Technique, Modern Dance Technique, Music in Dance, Dance Production, Dance Kinesiology, Western Dance History, Dance Improvisation, Southeast Asia and South Asia Dance History, Dance Appreciation, Diploma Project, Specialised Ballet Techniques, Dance Repertory, Asian Dance Technique, Asian Dance Workshop, Pilates, Music in Dance, Dance Composition, Dance Teaching Methodology, Dance Appreciation, College Writing Cultural and Society in the West, Dance Production.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must be preferably 16 to 25 years old and are required to pass in the admission test/audition. The general requirement is Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level with at least four grade-C6 or better grade subjects, excluding English language, or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or Certificate, or relevant Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Nitec qualifications with GPA 2.5 and above may apply. Apart from the above general requirements International applicants from India should have obtained Secondary School Certificate (Year 10), including a passing grade of 50 and above for English from The Central Board of Secondary Education Examinations (CBSE). Applicants from other countries should have country specific requirements equivalent to Singapore. They should also demonstrate their English language proficiency with a Grade D7 or better in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level English Language, or TOEFL score of 400 or better, or IELTS Band 4 or higher, or pass in NAFA English Admission Test.
