Course summary
This programme aims to meet the needs of the creative industries in Singapore and the region for talented individuals in Design Communication, including fields such as advertising, graphic design and illustration, among others. Its curriculum centres on the process of purposeful enquiry, utilising rational and appropriate visual research methods to create effective solutions to real-world problems. This process is designed to enable students to develop systematic ways of working which lead to successful outcomes based on experiments, visual testing, materials investigation and reflective evaluation. This reflects the programme's distinctive teaching philosophy of 'thinking-through-making'. Comprising studio practice, contextual studies and technical studies modules, students will discover new ideas, skill sets and ways to work with different people, to think, observe, debate, question and play. Upon completion, they will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge required by the creative industry to develop original, relevant concepts and effectively communicate clients' needs through a fundamental design process in their professional practice. Graduates can progress as graphic designer, junior art director, junior copywriter, illustrator, visualiser, typographer and photographer.
