Course summary

This programme is designed to equip leaders of preschool centres with the skills necessary for running a high quality preschool programme. This programme will highlight the various administrative and managerial functions necessary for an organized and effective school. Students who have successfully completed the Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education - Leadership can proceed to pursue the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Childhood Education, validated and awarded by the University of Wales (UK). This programme is accredited by Ministry of Education - Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports Pre-school Qualification Accreditation Committee (MOE-MCYS PQAC). At the end of the course, students will be able to: raise awareness of issues pertaining to government guidelines and curriculum implementation and current research in early childhood care and education; be equipped with skills to observe, evaluate, appraise teacher, provide a creative learning environment and mentor fellow-teachers; acquire management and supervision skills that promote effective learning programmes, encourage teamwork among staff and collaboration with parents; be equipped with the administrative and management skills necessary for the efficient operation of early childhood centres.

Program modules

The modules include Current Issues and Research in Early Childhood Care and Education (60 hours), Designing the Early Childhood Care and Education Curriculum (180 hours), Understanding and Implementing Action Research in Early Childhood Care and Education (90 hours), Leadership, Management and Administration in Early Childhood Care and Education Settings (230 hours), Professional Development (30 hours), Partnership with Families and the Community (60 hours), Supervised Leadership Practice (200 hours).
